Film Fest Announces Official Selections 2013
The KahBang Film Festival, re-launched this year by the KahBang Festival’s non-profit sister organization, KahBang Arts, announced today it’s Official Selections to screen as part of the 2013 KahBang Film Festival, August 8-11 in Bangor, Maine.
Meg Shorette, KahBang Arts Executive Director said, “We were pleased to select a number of new filmmakers, as well as international and local filmmakers. While we are excited to announce several world premieres, we will also be screening acclaimed independent films winning awards at other esteemed festivals such as SXSW, Sundance, Tribeca and The Slamdance Film Festival. It was our [KahBang Arts] goal this year to revitalize the Film Festival and we are poised to have an incredible weekend, with more filmmakers in attendance than any other year. Enriching and growing the indie film community is important to us and we’re very excited about this year’s selections.”
KahBang Film will feature dozens of free film screenings, juried awards for competitive screening categories, a midnight film showcase, and, new this year, a VHS Screening Night.
Highlights from this year’s Official Selections include The Dirties, a feature film in the Gen-Next Competition which highlights first-time and emerging filmmakers. Budding auteur Matthew Johnson, discovered at the Slamdance Film Festival, delves into the dark world of High School bullying in this chilling indie drama.
The River, a short film included in the selections, stars Lauren Ambrose from HBO’s “Six Feet Under”. The short, directed by Ambrose’s husband, Sam Handel, had its premiere earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.
An exciting inclusion in this year’s selections is Black Rock, a feature film co-written and directed by Maine native Katie Aselton, who also stars in the popular FX Comedy Series, The League. A darker departure from her comedic work, Black Rock (also starring Kate Bosworth and Lake Bell) is a crafty thriller which plays out like an updated homage to “Deliverance”, following three friends on a weekend camping trip to a remote coastal island.
